VERB- EXERCISE ( Part-20)

              

 Directions(Q.1-50): Read each sentence to find out whether there is any grammatical error or idiomatic error in it. The error if any, will be in one part of the sentence. The number of that part is the answer. If there is “No error” the answer is ‘E'.(Ignore errors of punctuation if any.)

Solutions

1. (a) Replace ‘are’ by ‘is’ because ‘Arabian Nights’ is the name of a book.

2. (a) Use ‘indicate’ instead of ‘indicates’ because here ‘statistics’ means ‘data’.

3. (b) Replace ‘was’ by ‘were’ because ‘buildings’ are plural.

4. (d) Replace ‘are’ by ‘is’ because subject is ‘life’.

5. (c) Replace ‘are’ by ‘is’ when two subjects are joined by ‘as well as/no less than/with/along with’ we use ‘verb’ according to the first subject.

6. (b) Replace ‘leaves’ by ‘leave’ because we use ‘verb’ without ‘s/es’ with ‘do/does/did.

7. (b) Use ‘gives’ instead of ‘give’ when two subjects are joined by ‘either…or/neither…..nor/not only……..but also’ we use ‘verb’ in accordance with the second subject.

8. (b) Use ‘is trying his best’ instead of ‘are trying their best’. When ‘each and every’ are joined with ‘and’ they always take singular verb and pronoun.

Example- 1. Each boy and each girl are preparing for their exams. (incorrect)

                2. Each boy and each girl is preparing for his exams. (correct)

10. (c) Use ‘were’ instead of ‘was’ because subject is ‘players’.
